Disney’s The Lion King Roars into Denver
The magic of Broadway has arrived at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Disney’s “The Lion King,” is the world’s #1 musical and winner of more than 70 major awards, including six Tony® Awards and a Grammy®. Now, the production is heading to the Mile High City. It will play at the Buell Theatre from Oct. 23 to Nov. 16.
Directed by the visionary Julie Taymor, the first woman in Broadway history to win a Tony for Best Direction, the production is a breathtaking fusion of artistry, music and storytelling that continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
Be transported to the African savanna through more than 200 stunning puppets and masks, handcrafted by Taymor and designer Michael Curry. The beloved storyline is brought to life by a talented cast of 49 performers.
The show features over 80 instruments from around the globe, with multiple indigenous African languages and iconic songs by Elton John and Tim Rice.
Since its 1997 premiere, “The Lion King” has become the highest-grossing stage production in history. It has surpassed even the world’s top film franchises.
Among the talented cast is Gilbert Domally, who stars as Simba. A Broadway veteran, Domally has appeared in “The Color Purple,” “Choir Boy,” and “Dreamgirls.” He is known for his powerful performances and magnetic stage presence.
