Colorado Legislature to Begin Video Streaming Committee Meetings in 2026
Colorado legislative leaders have approved a plan to offer video livestream videos of committee meetings. When the 2026 session of the General Assembly opens Jan. 14, this content will be available for the first time in state history. Previously limited to mandated audio recordings initiated in the 1960s, the change expands transparency and civic engagement.
According to the Colorado Freedom of Information Coalition (CFOIC), the Executive Committee of the Legislative Council voted on Dec. 31 to spend up to $70,000 on video live-streaming technology with a 5-1 margin. The technology will utilize the Sliq Media Technologies platform, which previously provided audio coverage of the proceedings. The vote authorizes Legislative Council to implement video streaming “for all legislative committee meetings on a year-round basis, beginning in January 2026.”

House Speaker Julie McCluskie (D-Dillon), says the expansion will “open up more opportunities for Coloradans to engage in the legislative process.” After backing a pilot program for the transition, McCluskie, called the initiative a step toward greater public access to legislative work.
The transition was piloted during the summer and fall of 2025, generating over 15,000 views through mid-November. After pushing for committee video since September 2024, CFOIC Executive Director Jeffrey A. Roberts referenced findings that “Colorado was the only state not to provide at least some video coverage of legislative committee meetings.”
Senate Majority Leader Robert Rodriguez was the only lawmaker who voted against the measure, expressing conversation about cost and potential technical issues. After the measure passed, Senate President James Coleman (D-Denver) thanked the council staff for finding solutions to lower cost and extend the length of the contract.
The approved contract includes a one-time $20,000 activation fee and approximately $50,000 in session costs. The addition of video streaming is expected to increase civic engagement and build trust, while helping viewers follow along with hearing activity more easily.
Streaming will be available on laptops, phones and other devices through the existing system when the 2026 legislative session begins.
